The top plate consists of a primary plate that mounts onto the camera using 1/4"-20 screws and a detachable NATO rail plate that mounts on top of the primary plate using 1/4"-20 screws.
The plate system is designed to surround the top hot shoe, leaving it unobstructed so you can still use accessories such as the Sony ECM-W3 microphone while also adding other accessories. There are multiple 1/4"-20 accessory threads on the primary plate, and the detachable plate features a NATO rail and a 3/8"-16 anti-twist accessory thread to install a top handle or other accessory. A 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 thread adapter is included if you want to install a 1/4"-20 accessory onto the NATO rail plate.
