The optical construction consists of 9 elements in 7 groups, including four aspherical surfaces. These ensure effective correction of aberrations such as spherical aberration or distortion and enable consistently high image quality right into the corners – even at open aperture. The use of glass with a high refractive index further optimizes contrast and sharpness.
Main Features:
- Focal length: 35 mm (for full format)
- Lens speed: f/1.2 – ideal for available light photography and selective focus
- Optical design: 9 elements in 7 groups, including 4 aspherical surfaces
- Aperture: 12 blades for a round bokeh
- Focusing range: 0.5 m to ∞ (rangefinder coupled up to 0.7 m)
- Connection: VM bayonet (compatible with Leica M)
- Manual focus with precise metal mechanism and optimum torque
- High-quality production “Made in Japan”
The impressive speed of F1.2 not only offers excellent reserves in low light, but also enables a very pronounced background blur and targeted cropping of the subject. The 12-blade aperture has been specially designed to achieve the most circular aperture possible, which ensures a particularly soft and natural-looking bokeh – ideal for portraits, street photography or atmospheric reportage.
A special feature is the extended close-up limit: while the rangefinder allows coupling down to 0.7 m, the lens can even be focused down to 0.5 m in Live View mode. This flexibility opens up additional creative possibilities for close-ups and detailed studies.
The precisely crafted metal housing accommodates a finely tuned helicoid focusing unit with optimum torque. It enables extremely precise, smooth focusing – an important feature, especially at open aperture, when the focus range is extremely narrow.
With its compact form factor, the lens remains pleasantly handy and balanced – both on rangefinder cameras and on mirrorless system cameras via adapters. The VM bayonet mount is fully compatible with the Leica M mount and makes the lens the ideal choice for anyone who wants to combine classic photography with uncompromising quality.
